Managing download limits individually can become time-consuming when you have many digital products. Big Digital Downloads allows you to edit download limits in bulk, making it easy to apply the same rules across multiple products at once.
This feature is especially useful for stores managing large digital catalogs with hundreds of products.
Download limits allow you to control how customers access digital files after purchase by defining:
Download expiry β How long the download link remains active
Maximum downloads β How many times a file can be downloaded
Bulk editing lets you apply these settings to multiple products simultaneously.
Using bulk actions helps you:
Save time when managing many digital products
Apply consistent download rules across your catalog
Quickly update limits during promotions or policy changes
Avoid manual editing product by product
Ideal for stores selling templates, courses, assets, or large digital libraries.
From your Shopify admin, go to Apps.
Open Big Digital Downloads.
In the left sidebar, click Digital products.
You will see the list of all your digital products.
Select Products to Edit
You have two ways to start bulk editing:
Option A: Manual selection
Check the boxes next to the digital products you want to modify.

Option B: Bulk actions menu
Click Bulk actions.
Select Edit download limits.

A configuration window will appear where you can adjust:
Download Expiry
Choose how long downloads remain available:
Set a time limit Define duration in hours, days, or another time unit.
No limit (disable) Downloads never expire.
Maximum Downloads
Control how many times customers can download files:
Set a max number
Unlimited (disable)

You can now choose how broadly the changes apply:
Apply settings only to the selected products, or
Enable Apply to all products to update your entire catalog.
Click Apply to save your changes.
Bulk editing is recommended when:
You import many new digital products
You want unified download policies
You manage large product libraries
You need to quickly adjust access rules store-wide
If you sell many similar digital products, set standardized download limits using bulk editing first. This prevents inconsistent customer experiences and reduces future maintenance.
